//Alumni Spotlight: Lauren Jurek

Lauren Jurek graduated in 2017 with a degree in Human Factors Psychology. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Human Factors & Systems through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide. While continuing her education, she is working at The Boeing Company.

Discuss your current position at Boeing.

I’m currently a User Experience Specialist at Boeing’s North Charleston location. I work with engineers designing end products for our manufacturers as well as other necessary applications. I also help design and develop applications for engineers to use to help design and build our aircraft. The applications also support maintaining the aircraft as well.  At this time, I am just beginning my career. It’s very exciting to be a part of the Boeing family.

What experiences/involvement did you have while at ERAU – Daytona Beach that had a positive effect on you?

I had many amazing experiences at ERAU Daytona Beach. I lived in Adams Hall my freshmen year and while living on campus, I made the most amazing friends who I consider family now. Despite being across the country, we still remain in communication and talk daily.

I was also involved in the Riddle Riders Motorcycle Club and participated in research in the Human Factors department.

What made you pursue a graduate degree?

I decided to pursue the Masters of Science in Human Factors & Systems because I’m very passionate about human factors and I love to learn. Furthering my knowledge in human factors will help me progress further in my career. It strengthens my passion in human factors, and is allowing me to gain knowledge about systems engineering. Systems engineering concepts can easily be applied to human factors and user experience. I love how easily they correlate. It makes designing products and technology more fun!

What advice do you have for other Human Factors Psychology students to be successful?

Get INVOLVED! Ask the professors what kind of research you can get involved with. ANY research helps and shows you are dedicated and determined. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to participate in these projects! If you can’t be a part of one, look for another. I guarantee you there’s one out there waiting for you to tag along with.

Utilize career services when it comes to applying for internships and jobs. They will help you perfect your resume, cover letter, and give you tips on how to interview and so forth. I am so grateful for them – they helped me get my job with Boeing. Nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it. I didn’t get a job right away after college. However, my patience and perseverance led to me Boeing. I promise, you WILL get there, you WILL get a job and be successful. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help, be patient, and persevere – the reward is so worth it!
